My Visits Of Exmouth And The East Devon Coast

Welcome to this part of my website, featuring pictures and articles from my visits of the East Devon Coast. This part of the coast was where I had my first holiday in Devon, as a child in the late 1960s at the holiday camp of Sandy Bay, situated near the seaside Resort of Exmouth. This stretch of the coast is very unspoilt and is by far the best part of the Devon coast, I think for walking. The pictures in the order of 1 to 6 are from my visit during the Summer of 2004. The pictures starting from 7 to 26 are from a 2005-2007 revisit of East Devon and feature the neighbouring resorts of Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Beer and Seaton, unspoilt by time. The pictures in the order of 27 to 31 are from a visit of the historic city of Exeter, Devon's main town and is a excellent touring base for exploring all of the South West of England.

Exmouth. This is at the West end of the sea front, looking towards the mouth of the Exe estury.

Exmouth. This is looking south up Marine Drive, with its Summer spectacular scene of palm trees and gives Devon that Continental feeling.

Exmouth. This is at the East end of the sea front looking towards High Orcombe and taken on my walk of the East Devon Coast.

Sandy Bay. This is looking towards Sandy Bay, from the top of Orcombe Point and was taken on a walk during the summer of 2004

Exmouth. This is the Strand Gardens, located in Exmouth town centre, with its lovely floral display.

Exmouth. This is in the town centre, on a busy afternoon rush hour and was taken on a summer visit during 2004

Budleigh Salterton. Situated about 5 miles East of Exmouth and is one of the loveliest and pieceful seaside resorts on the entire coast of Devon

Budleigh Salterton. This scene is looking East of the resort, noted for its pebbled beach and was taken in the Summer of 2005.

Budleigh Salterton. This is looking West of the resort, on the South West coast path and was taken during the Summer of 2005.

Budleigh Salterton. This scene is the River Otter, one of Devon's most popular nature reserves, situated East of the resort and taken in Summer 2005.

Otterton. Pleasent East Devon village, situated 3miles North of Budleigh Salterton and still has a working water mill.

Otterton. This is looking west, in the village centre and the splendid lineup of whitewashed thatched cottages, gives it an outstanding appearance.

Ladram Bay. Situated midway, in between Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth and is popular with beach surfing.

Ladram Bay. This scene is looking west, with a view of the entire bay and was taken during the Summer of 2005

Sidmouth. This scene is looking East of the South West coast path, as you approach into the West end of the resort and was taken during Summer 2005.

Sidmouth. This scene is at the West end of the resort and as you can see, despite the sea mist, the beautiful red stone cliffes, still stand out.

Sidmouth. The Devon cream of the coast and like Exmouth it is one of Devon's most popular seaside towns, with its nice gardens and street displays.

Sidmouth. This is looking towards the west end of the sea front and was taken during the summer of 2005.

Sidmouth. This scene is looking into the Market Place, as you approach from the sea front and was taken during the Summer of 2005

Sidmouth. This is in the Market Place, looking West towards Church Street and was taken during the Summer of 2005.

Beer. Picturesque fishing village and noted for its superb white freestone and was taken during the Autumn of 2007

Beer. One of my best pictures of its pebbled sea front and was taken during Autumn 2007

Beer. This is looking east towards The Cross as you come down into the village centre and was taken during Autumn 2007

Seaton. This is on the seafront looking east towards Haven Cliff and was taken during Autumn 2007.

Seaton. This is looking towards the west end of the seafront and as you can see, Autumn is the time you almost have the beach to yourself.

Exeter. This scene is in Cathedral close, the most busiest tourist attractions of this beautiful historic city.

Exeter. This is St Peters Cathedral, and a holiday in Devon is not complete, without a visit of this historic building.

Exeter. This scene is the remains of St Nicholas' Priory, just off Fore Street and dates back to 1070. Taken during the Summer of 2005.

Exeter. This is looking towards the quayside visitor centre, on the Exeter Canal and was taken during summer 2005.
